Manhard provided surveying, design, permitting, bidding, and construction observation services for the installation of water main, replacement of lead water services, sanitary sewer main and services, and storm sewer improvements in the downtown district of Lake Zurich.

A key challenge faced with this project involved the replacement of the active watermain systems through a myriad of existing utilities while maintaining service to the affected residences and businesses. 12” water main in 20” casing was jack and augured under the Wisconsin Central Railroad, whose permitting process proved complicated but achievable. Identification, easement and construction agreement legal recordings, and coordination for the replacement of lead service lines were performed by staff. Our design incorporated detailed sequencing and installation guidelines to construct the system while maintaining service and reducing the number of physical impacts to residential yards, driveways, and downtown commercial businesses. Manhard provided regular updates to the Village, residents, and businesses regarding project progress and traffic detour implementation.

The project was substantially completed in December of 2023 meeting all deadlines and was constructed under budget.
