Manhard Consulting provided full civil engineering and landscape architecture services to Transport Properties, Inc. for a proposed logistics facility on a 36-acre lot located along the Calumet River in near Chicago’s South Deering Neighborhood.
The project included sustainable design and stormwater best management practices (BMP’s) in line with the recommendations set by the Calumet River Design Guidelines, such as routing runoff to bio-infiltration swales with robust native landscaping. The project required Chicago Planned Development (PD) approval which Manhard assisted through representation at Chicago Plan Commission and Zoning Committee Meetings along with the creation of PD exhibits, site, and landscape renderings. Manhard also assisted with the River Ecology and Governance Task Force Development Group review process.
This project also included improvements to provide shoreline stabilization along the Calumet River. This included the construction of gabion baskets and establishing native plantings along the shoreline to prevent erosion. These developments required additional permitting through the US Army Corp of Engineers.
